On the shore of Loch Ranza there was in early times a convent of St Bride. Towards the end of the seventeenth century mission work was begun in this part of Arran through the benevolvence of Anne, Duchess of Hamilton. On 28 June 1918 the parish of Lochranza was disjoined from Kilmorie.
